Produced, directed, and music scored by Kelly Moore, "Nicaragua - On The Ground" documents successful efforts by the WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program)'s School Feeding and Food For Work Programs
MANCHESTER, VT: As a former US Delegate for the WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program) to Nicaragua in 2008, WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program) Community Delegate Kelly Moore has just completed the twenty-nine minute documentary which will help to raise awareness, funds and promote the album inspired by his trip to Nicaragua titled "Silently Hoping." Proceeds from the DVD will go to the UN World Food Programme - Nicaragua, and album sales proceeds will go to the WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program) for the School Feeding Program.
During the seven-day trip to the mountains of Nicaragua, Moore witnessed first hand the vast poverty of this country and its contrasts in beauty. While on the trip, Moore also was able to witness the successes of the tireless efforts and progress of the School Feeding Program in place. "I was so impressed with the enthusiasm of the children to be in school and learning," Moore states. "Receiving high-nutrient meals, for many their only one of the day, and the opportunity to learn and improve themselves so they could go to high school, were both powerful incentives." Moore also elaborates, "Many of the school children traveled eight mountainous miles to and from school every day. I'm really impressed that kids in that situation have so much drive to learn that they will go to those lengths for education and food."
"Nicaragua - On The Ground" includes interviews with Karen Sendelback, former President/CEO, WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program); Margot Hoerrner, former Vice President, Outreach, WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program); and several Community Coordinators of the WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program).
It was not a hard decision for Moore to make when deciding to go to Nicaragua. "When former Vice President Margot Hoerrner invited me on the trip, I jumped at the chance. Here was an opportunity to not only see where my contributions were going to help, but how they were helping, too. To experience the situation first-hand is unlike anything else. It makes it personal." The decision to create the documentary was not difficult for Moore either. "I knew right away that I wanted to take a video camera and still camera and get as much footage as possible so that when I told the story of hunger relief in Nicaragua, people could really see it first-hand."
Finding himself as a first-time Producer/Director and composer to a full-length documentary, Moore hopes to show the real life successes being accomplished rather than the constant needs. Moore states: "It's important for people to see, close-up, what we experienced and feel it for themselves. 'Nicaragua - On The Ground' can help people understand what the World Food Programme is doing, and what kind of help the people need, and we can raise not only awareness, but money to help, as well."
