Representing Music For Mankind® and Friends of WFP to recognize two US Congress members honoring their contributions to solving world hunger.
WASHINGTON D.C. Meeting with former Democratic Presidential nominees George McGovern and Senator John Kerry, Ambassadors from Switzerland and Nicaragua, Congressional members from across the United States, and The Board of Directors for The Friends of the World Food Program, Celtic Folk guitarist and founder of Music For Mankind® Kelly Moore was invited to represent his organization and recognize the efforts of Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern and Missouri Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson for their outstanding contributions to help hunger victims through the McGovern - Dole School Feeding Program. The event was held in Washington, DC on July 8th.
"It was an incredible honor to be invited to the Awards Ceremony, and I was thrilled to meet
Senators McGovern and Kerry and Representatives McGovern, Emerson, and many others. Their enthusiastic support for Music For Mankind® is very encouraging, and I feel strongly that the future of Music For Mankind® holds great promise."
Prior to the award ceremony, Kelly was invited to take a tour of the Capitol building by the staffers of Vermont congressman Peter Welch. He also discussed his organization's goals with staffers of Senator Patrick Leahy, and met briefly with Senator Bernie Sanders.
Kelly recently volunteered his time for the WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program) as the only Community Delegate going on a trip to Nicaragua July 20th. Kelly made a substantial impact on the children in the regions most hit by hunger, and was able to deliver first hand the results of the contributions taken in by his foundation. Kelly and his ensemble Emerald Dreams will be performing in Waterbury, Vermont at the Rusty Parker Memorial Park on September 19th and then again at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont on September 24.

Did you hear about the time the bass player locked his keys in the car?
It took two hours to get the drummer out.
In the next issue I’ll tell you all about my trip with the WFP USA (formerly Friends of the World Food Program) to Nicaragua. I’ve already started work on a 30 minute documentary for Dish Network and Community Access TV stations as well as college stations.
The trip was stunning, and has made this entire cause extremely personal for me. I wrote two new songs inspired by the trip, and both will be on the new CD. One, entitled, “Silently Hoping” is the title track, and I’ll start performing it at the next concert.
Speaking of the new CD, “Silently Hoping”, it looks very good for a late October, early November release date. We’ll keep you posted, and it will be available for purchase at our concerts and on the website at www.awakenrecords.com
